Merlin Entertainments Portfolio

1.  Super & Sub-structure works (2018-ongoing)
2. New! Touch pool and interactive exhibit
3. Oceanarium Tank 4 (OC4) Remediation and Life Support System (LSS) works

1. Merlin has maintained a rolling capital expenditure (capex) plan for several years, addressing both the substructure and superstructure of SEALIFE.

The team at DJC has been overseeing this capex plan for a number of years.

Recently, Merlin commissioned an asset condition report which identified a significant number of rectification works.

DJC is currently managing FY24 works and preparing for FY25 works.

2. SEALIFE Sydney is looking to keep up with respective global counterparts in offering an interactive Rockpool experience which is both educational and exciting.

The new exhibit has been thoughtfully curated by the creative team at Sculpt Studios and will mimic the essence of tropical tidal rockpools, found in far north Queensland, including iconic Australian marine signage to enhance the experience.

The existing, interactive touchpool will be decommissioned and made-good – with the space partially being re-purposed to house the holding and quarantine pools for the new rockpool exhibit.

3. SEALIFE (Sydney Aquarium) refurbished their Oceanarium Tank 4 in 2018 with the new Great Barrier Reef exhibit drawing large crowds and quickly becoming a fan favourite.

As part of a rolling capex plan for 2024, the OC4 has been drained for a full overhaul ensuring maintenance is maintained and a high quality environment is provided for the animals. It was also decided to take advantage of the down time in the tank to upgrade the Life Support System (LSS). This was done by installing new protein skimmers and Ozone fractionators so that when the exhibit was returned to rotation the experience would be optimal for the animals and the guests.
